Kick-Ass

Watched With: Nobody @ Cathay EHub (19/04)
Snacks: Jumbo Hotdog & Grape Soda
Genre: Action / Comedy

"Fuck this shit, I'm getting the bazooka!"

Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) leads a normal life.
He goes to high school and blends in with the crowd.
He lives with his dad and hangs out with his other nerdy friends and reads comic books.

And one day, he decides that superheroes don't need to just exist in the pages of a comic book.
So he becomes one.

And after one of his exploits becomes a YouTube sensation, the new celebrity 'superhero' Kick-Ass gets the attention of local mobster Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong) and his son Chris D'Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) after several of his illegal activities appear to be foiled by a 'superhero' kind of vigilante.

Unknown to them, two others are also involved.
Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) & daughter Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) are on a mission of revenge against D'Amico and his goons.

So how will this end?
Can Kick-Ass lead the way for a better and safer future in the city?

Okay so this is a fun take on the whole comic superhero genre.
And i guess it's good for a few laughs.
The highlight has to be Hit-Girl. And though it's pretty weird to hear a 13-year old cuss like a sailor and kill people so effortlessly it kinda becomes cool after awhile. Weird.

PS it's safe to watch this because Nicholas Cage wear a mask most of the time.
thank god.

Shutter Island

Watched With: My Snooqums @ Cathay EHub (15/04)
Snacks: Hotdog Combo, Hawaiian Pizza & Iced Lemon Tea
Genre: Mystery / Thriller / Drama

Federal Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) meets his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) as they make their way to Shutter Island which houses the Ashecliff Hospital whish is actually an asylum for the criminally insane.
One of their patients has disappeared and must be found.

Dr. Cawley (Ben Kingsley) and Dr. Naehring (Max von Sydow) run the hospital and assist with the investigations.
But as the investigations progress, it is clear that something is amiss.

Flashbacks of Marshal Daniels' murdered wife Dolores Chanal (Michelle Williams) and his time during WWII are making the sinister surroundings even more foreboding.
Marshal Daniels also shows an ulterior motive to find another seemingly phantom-like patient Andrew Laeddis (Elias Koteas) who apparently murdered his wife.

But will the two Marshals be able to keep away from the deep secrets of Shutter Island or will this secret consume them?

The more I think about it the smarter this movie appears.
I can't reveal much but my advice is to pay attention to the movie (even though it may seem draggy and confusing at times) because you're given so many clues to solve the mystery at hand.
In fact there's even a clue or 2 in this post!

Another great movie from the pairing of DiCaprio and Scorsese.
You can really see how much DiCaprio has matured in his acting.

[REC] 2

Watched With: Nobody @ The Cathay (11/04)
Snacks: Coke
Genre: Horror

"Will it make a difference if I haven't watched the first one?"

Events follow immediately after the events from the first movie.
We follow a SWAT team consisting of Jefe (Óscar Zafra), Larra (Ariel Casas), Martos (Alejandro Casaseca) and cameraman Rosso (Pablo Rosso).
Their duty is to protect Dr. Owen (Jonathan Mellor) as he enters the building to determine the cause and contain the deadly virus that seems to be turning people into 'zombies'.

I can't say much else or it will spoil the show.
Suffice it to say that the first one was a very original idea and this sequel seems to have re-captured the same feel of the first movie by taking a new idea and providing a few twists here and there.
Despite it's short running time of 1 1/2 hours, it's actually quite a good horror show if you like shocks.

Oh. And yes. it would make a difference if you watched the first movie first. So try and catch that one first so the ending makes more sense.
