Pries†

Watched With: My Snooqums @ Cathay EHub (14/05)
Snacks: Grape Soda
Genre: Horror / Ac†ion

See wha† I did †here with the 't' in †he shape of a cross (†)?
Cos i†'s vampires and pries†s and... oh forget i†.

In a post-apocalyptic future, the world is a wasteland.
The war between humans and vampires was tipped with the help of the 'Priests' - who were specially trained by the church to combat the vampire threat.
But after the war was won, there was no longer any use for them.

But suddenly the threat from the vampires has somehow returned.

Priest (Paul Bettany) must now race against time to rescue his niece Lucy (Lily Collins) after his brother is killed by the vamps.
Together with sheriff Hicks (Cam Gigandet), they must race to find Black Hat (Karl Urban) who seems to be behind everything. Or is he?

Meanwhile, Head of the Church Monsignor Orelas (Christopher Plummer) decides that Priest must be punished for going against the church.
For "Going against the Church is going against God" so he sends Priestess (Maggie Q) to capture him and bring him to justice.

Oh please give me a break.
The problem with this movie is that it's trying to combine too many elements from previous concepts that it loses itself.
Mad Max meets Constantine? Seriously?
And I can't tell if this movie never got started or if it started in the middle because it was running at a very weird pace.

Never liked Paul Bettany much. But I am especially disappointed with Cam Gigandet.
After his badass performance in 'Never Back Down' he seems to be taking on more and more rubbish roles.

This is one for the DVD rentals kiddies.

Final Verdict: Worth $2.50 out of a $10 ticket

Source Code

Watched With: Nobody @ Cathay EHub (03/05)
Snacks: Green Tea
Genre: Sci-Fi / Action

8 minutes.

Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) awakens on a commuter train bound for Chicago but he does not feel like himself.
That is because he is in the body of Sean Fentress and he has been placed onboard that train to find a bomber before the train blows-up.

He has been placed in this scenario by Dr. Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright) and Colleen Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) for a new project called 'Source Code' where they can place an individual's mind in someone else's body and relive the last 8 minutes before a specific event and hopefully they get the information they need to solve the mystery and prevent further disaster.
And after 8 minutes, everything resets.

So Capt. Stevens must figure out who is the bomber on the train.
Could it be Christina Warren (Michelle Monaghan) who seems to know him?
Could it be Max Denoff (Russell Peters) a disgruntled and trouble celebrity on the train?
Or could it be any one of the dozens of suspicious characters on the train?

Whoever it is - he has 8 minutes.

Okay sure the idea is interesting.
Not new. But interesting.
Time travel and flashbacks are all too common by now.
In fact to be honest I would hardly classify this movie under those categories.

And alas this is one of those movies that I cannot reveal too much without spoiling everything but I will tell you 3 things.

  1. I don't like Jake Gyllenhal.
  2. Rusell Peters is ridiculous.
  3. I figured it out half-way. Cos I'm so smart.

I guess this movie isn't so bad. If you've got nothing better to watch.

**PS I'm trying out a new rating system suggested by Mr-Jab. What do you think?**

Final Verdict: Worth $5.50 out of a $10 ticket

Fast Five

Watched With: My Snooqums and her siblings
Snacks: Popcorn, Breaded Hotdog and Grape Soda
Genre: Action / Adventure
Hidden Scene: Yes. After the initial credits

"And above all else, we never ever let them get into cars."

Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) are back.
Together with Mia (Jordana Brewster), they are still on the run from the FBI and make their way to Rio De Janeiro.

There, old friend Vince (Matt Schulze) hooks them up with a job that goes awry and now the lot wanna give some payback to kingpin Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida) who controls all the crime in the city.

So they rope in old pals Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Han (Sung Kang), Gisele (Gal Gadot), Leo (Tego Calderon) and Santos (Don Omar) to pull off the ultimate revenge job.

But hot on their heels is FBI enforcer Agent Hobbs (Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) and local cop Elena (Elsa Pataky) who are bent on stopping the gang and bringing them in to the law.

If you're expecting to see hot-looking cars like in 2 Fast 2 Furious then you're not gonna find it.
If you're looking for super racing like the first Fast & Furious then look elsewhere.
But if you're looking for the best elements of the whole franchise then you've come to the right place.
(Definitely better than that piece of shit Part 4)

So this is the whole gang back for more and to be honest I guess this was probably one of the more entertaining movies in the franchise.
Maybe not as many flashy cars or fancy driving but we're familiar enough with the characters and there's enough action to keep us interested so I guess it wasn't so bad after all.

And The Rock is better here than his recent roles.
The Rock vs Vin Diesel = fierce or what!

I guess you could say this was kinda like the big reunion before they end the series but...
