Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li

Genre: Action / Martial Arts / Video Game
Watched With: Nobody @ Cathay EHub (27/03)
Snacks: Nachos & Limeade

What? No Hodoken?

Chun-Li (Kristin Kreuk) has always been reminded of 1 thing by her businessman father Xiang (Edmund Chen) - that honour is always more important than money.
But when Bison (Neal McDonough) and his evil henchman Balrog (Michael Clarke Duncan) kidnap Xiang to use his business connections to build their evil empire Shadaloo, Chun-Li is forced to wait to avenge her father.

Meanwhile Interpol Agent Charlie Nash (Chris Klein) comes to Thailand and teams up with local cop Maya Sunee (Moon Bloodgood) hot on the trail of the Shadaloo corporation by trying to get information by Shadaloo agent Cantana (Josie Ho).

And Chun-Li gets help from the mysterious Gen (Robin Shou) who makes her realize that she must let go of her anger in order to avenge her father.

What a piece of shit movie.
Such a disgrace to a franchise with so much potential.
I don't know what angle they were going for but they certainly did not stay true to anything that might imply this was a movie adaptation of such a popular video game.

To be honest I much rather prefer the original Street Fighter movie.
Yeah sure it may seem a bit campy and corny but at least that movie was entertaining and you were able to relate what you saw on-screen to what you played in the video game.

In this new movie you will see horrible acting by pretty much all the characters. Horrible casting (Chris Klein REALLY overdoes it in this one and look out for a completely miscast and lame Vega played by Black Eyed Peas member Taboo).
And there are oh-so-many loopholes in the plot.
(Just wait for the ending and you'll see what I mean.

Forget this movie. Stick to the Van Damme original.
Or wait for the sequel. Maybe.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
*cue the fanfare*

The year is 1998 and Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace - the most highly anticipated film for years to Star Wars fans worldwide - is set to open in a few months.

Eric Bottler (Sam Huntington) and Linus (Chris Marquette) used to be best friends. But after college, Eric started working for his dad at his car dealership leaving behind dreams of comic books and Star Wars behind him.
So the 2 have not spoken since then and Eric only still talks to the other 2 Star Wars/sci-fi/comic buddies in the group Hutch (Dan Fogler) & Windows (Jay Baruchel).

But Linus has been diagnosed with terminal cancer which means he will not get a chance to watch Episode 1 when it is released.
So as a final act of brotherhood, Eric proposes they all watch the movie before it screens - by breaking into George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch.

So off they go across the country to commit the sci-fi caper of the century by defying all odds and beating millions of others to watch the coveted new Star Wars film. Oh and their friend Zoe (Kristen Bell) gets dragged along too.

Star Wars fans are gonna love this movie.
And one of the best things about this movie is the number of stars who made cameos in it. Seriously.

We've got Seth Rogen (who HAD to do 3 roles), Danny Trejo (as the Chief), Ethan Suplee, Billy Dee Williams (as Judge Reinhold), Jaime King, William Shatner, Carrie Fisher, Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes (aka Jay & Silent Bob) and even Ray Park (as the security guy).

They're either part of Star Wars at one point are are huge Star Wars fans themselves but none of them minded poking some fun at themselves or the saga that they love.

Not exactly the BEST movie to watch but if you're a fan get the DVD and you'll probably get some laughs out of it.

No no this is not a movie about giving birth.

Nick Gant (Chris Evans) is a very special boy. He is a telekinetic just like his father was. And ever since Nick Sr. was killed by The Division led by Agent Henry Carver (Djimon Hounsou) and his right-hand man Victor Budarin (Neil Jackson), Nick has been on the run.

But when another special girl Cassie Holmes (Dakota Fanning) whose mum has also been abducted by The Divison shows up and tell Nick that he has to help her save a girl, that's when the trouble starts.
The girl - Kira Hudson (Camilla Belle) - is the key to either saving the people with special abilities or destroying their chances of survival.

And on top of that throw in some obstacles like the hong Kong Mafia - The Pop Family - who also happen to have special abilties and you have a real problem.
But doesn't hurt to have some help from your friends namely Hook Waters (Cliff Curtis), Emily Hu (Ming-Na) & Pinky Stein (Nate Mooney).

One of the cool things about this movie I guess is the variety of special abilities that they have. And they're all serving a particular purpose and they have their own uniqueness about them.

We've got Movers (like Nick) who have telekinetic powers.
We've got Watchers (like Cassie) who can see the future.
We've got Pushers (like Agent Carver) who can manipulate your thoughts.
We've got Bleeders (like the Pop Family) who can scream so loud that your blood vessels burst.
We've got Shadows who can protect people or things by shielding them.
We've got Sniffers who can track people or things.
And we've got Stitches who can heal people and Wipers who can erase your memory.

Sounds like a lot to remember but don't worry the movie isn't that complicated. In fact the problem is that it's a bit too simple.
The visual imagery is nice and the whole superpower angle works really well if you ask me but after awhile you tend to get a bit bored because you know what's going to happen.

But overall not too bad. Quite worth the watch i reckon.
On DVD that is.

Watchmen

"God help us all. "

The year is 1985.
It is a time of masked heroes and nuclear war.
The Doomsday Clock has been set to 5 minutes before and nuclear confrontation with the Soviet Union seems likely.

Edward Blake/The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) has just been murdered and a fellow former Watchmen member Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) believes there is more to his death than it seems.
Rorschach decides to warn his other former partners Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson), Jon Osterman/Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup) and his girlfriend Laurie Jupiter/Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman) & the world's smartest man Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias (Matthew Goode) that something is amiss.

What uncovers is a plot that seems to imply that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to politics and the even the law passed deeming masked heroes as vigilantes hence banning them from the streets.

Based on the 80s graphic novel of the same name, this ground-breaking masterpiece has been in the works for a major film release for more than a decade.

And as usual I'm going to be honest and say this is not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
People are probably expecting to see Wolverine tear up the baddies and Iron-Man to use his rockets or something like that.
But sorry to disappoint kiddos. Not that kind of superhero movie.
In fact the only characted with real superpowers is Dr Manhatta. The rest are regular humans with minor abilities like agility or strength who take it upon themselves to do good and watch over society.
"But who watches the watchmen?"

This story poses questions. Of what is right and what is wrong.
About humanity and how far would you go or expect others to go to keep it.

My advice is to read the graphic novel before watching.
It might help.

If I hadn't read the graphic novel I'd probably have given it 2 hot dogs overall cos it'd seem a bit confusing.
But since I read the graphic novel -
