Angels & Demons

The Pope has just died.
Vatican City is abuzz with a new Pope about to be elected.
But all is not well.

An ancient secret society called 'The Illuminati' has suddenly re-appeared centuries after their torture and banishment by the Vatican in ancient times.
The Illuminati have stolen a major scientific breakthrough from a laboratory in Switzerland - they've managed to create and harness antimatter (which is like as if God creating stuff at the point of initial creation).
And this antimatter is a highly explosive force. (We're talking nuclear here)

So Inspector Ernesto Olivetti (Pierfrancesco Favino) calls upon the renowned Prof. Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) to help with investigations - much to annoyance of Commander Richter (Stellan SkarsgÄrd) who believes the matter should be settled internally by the Swiss Guard instead.

So Langdon along with a professor from the lab Vittoria Vetra (Ayelet Zurer) must race against time to save some kidnapped cardinals and prevent the antimatter from blowing up Vatican City while at the same time dealing with the attention and pressure from Vatican In-Charge Camerlengo Patrick McKenna (Ewan McGregor) and the chief cardinal, Cardinal Strauss (Armin Mueller-Stahl).

Can Langdon prevent a disaster in time?
Let us pray.

Unfortuantely no matter how hard you pray I think you're going to end up saying "Eh, this was not as good as The Da Vinci Code lah."
A lot of people expect this movie to surpass the standards set by the first adventure involving Professor Langdon and unfortunately this new installment does not deliver.

Who knows? Maybe it's just me.
But somehow I think several people might have guessed who the bad guy was before the movie even hit the halfway mark.
And no. I did not read the book first.
In fact. Maybe this should be enjoyed as a book instead of as a movie.

Never mind. Let us pray.
(For something better in future)
