Phobia 2

Watched With: Mr Snooqums, My Mum & Dad, My Brother & Miss Yana (26/09) @ Cathay EHub
Snacks: Cup Corn and Iced Lemon Tea
Genre: Horror

Kap-oon-crappppp.

So it's the sequel to the brilliant 4bia. Can it live up?
Plus this time it's 5 short stories.

Story One: Novice
A boy (Jirayu La-ongmanee) is sent to a monastery by his mother in he hopes that the monks will be able to help her wild son curb his ways.
The boy's wild ways and devil-may-care attitude towards things may seem to serve him well but when he disrespects the spirits, it literally is a case of devil-may-care.

Story Two: Ward
A teen is injured in a traffic accident and his request for a private ward is granted. Well sort of.
The only other patient in the next bed is an elderly man in a coma and on the brink of death. Or is he.
One night in the hospital is an awfully long time...

Story Three: Backpackers
Two Japanese tourists (Erika Toda) are hitchhiking through the Thai wilderness route and finally get a lucky break when a trucker and his partner (Charlie Trairat) give the youths a lift.
After all, all hitchhikers are picked up by nice friendly truckers right?
Wrong.

Story Four: Salvage
Nuct owns and runs a second-hand car dealership. The catch? The second-hand cars are actually salvaged and restored wrecks of vehicles that had been involved in accidents. Surely the dead passengers would not mind right?
Not like as if they're gonna drive anywhere...

Story Five: In The End
Aey, Shin, Ter & Phuak (Pongsatorn Jongwilat) are working on the movie set of a new horrow movie. When a movie extra Kate is ill, spooky things starts to happen around the set.
Will they get to complete their filming in the end?

To be honest this movie was not so bad.
I guess it was still pretty creative but i guess because they had to squeeze five short stories into the 2-hour running time, people might feel it was a bit rushed.

The final short was the best because 4 of the guys from the original 4bia returned to repeat their antics from the first movie.
But overall compared to the first movie, this one was not as scary.

I'll stick to Golden Axe.

It is the year 2034 and Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall) has built alternate portals for people to live out their fantasies. His mind-control technology is ground-breaking and allows humans to control or be controlled.
In Society, people get to control their avatars (who are actually mind-controlled actors).

But his 2nd creation Slayers is more brutal.
For a fee, people get to control death row inmates in battlefield deathmatches.
Kable (Gerard Butler) is his #1 star and is 3 matches away from gaining his freedom.
His motivation - his wife Angie (Amber Valletta) and his daughter.

But Castle cannot afford to lose his leading star and tries to thwart his freedom by introducing new psycho-slayer Hackman (Terry Crews) into the mix.
But several including Kable's buddy Freek (John Leguizamo), a group of rebels known as the Humanz led by Humanz Brother (Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges), talkshow host and Castle-critic Gina Parker Smith (Kyra Sedgwick) and human controller Simon (Logan Lerman) are on Kable's side and want to see the mighty Castle fall.

Sounds good right? Wrong.
I really expected to see an action movie. Kinda like Death Race or The Running Man or something where the lines were clearly drawn and you just enjoy the action.
But there was just too much going on to be honest. And it was pretty poorly organized if you ask me.

They tried to make a film when they should have just made a movie.
No need to be so cerebral when it comes to death matches bub.

Inglourious Basterds

Watched With: My Snooqums @ GV Vivo City (17/09)

Genre: Tarantino

"We in the killin' Nazi business. And cousin, business is a-boomin"

Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) has put together a special team of Jew soldiers to strike fear into the hearts of the Nazis.
So together with former Nazi supersoldier Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger), baseballbat wielding Sgt. Donny 'The Bear Jew' Donowitz (Eli Roth), Pfc. Omar Ulmer (Omar Doom) and a few others, the Inglourious Basterds are out for Nazi scalps.

But on the Nazi side, Col. Hans Landa aka The Jew Hunter (Christoph Waltz) is just a ruthless when it comes to hunting the Jews.
So when the Nazis plan to have a film premiere at a Shosanna Dreyfus' (Mélanie Laurent) cinema, the Jew living in secret plans to make the Nazis pay for her and he people's suffering at their hands.

When news of the Nazis' film premiere reaches HQ, General Ed Fenech (Mike Myers) enlists the help of the Basterds and brit Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender) to infiltrate the cinema and assassinate the heads of the Nazi party.
Double-agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) is their way in and their only hope of getting into the cinema to execute their plan and execute some Nazis

So who will succeed? The Basterds? Or The Jew Hunter?

Well a lot of people will be comparing this movie to Tarantino's previous outing 'Kill Bill' but my advice is not to.
Because we must remember that 'Kill Bill' was an action movie.
Inglourious Basterds is more classic Tarantino. More in the spirit of his earlier movies like 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'Pulp Fiction'.

Snappy dialogue and inside jokes.
Roping in some friends (eg Samuel L. Jackson, Julie Dreyfus etc) to make cameos.
And of course. Pointless gore. Pointless but appreciated.

Watch this movie. But on it's own.
Don't compare it to 'Kill Bill' and you'll enjoy it more.

The Final Destination

Watched With: My Brother @ The Cathay (05/09)

Genre: Horror

"Rest In Pieces"? That's the best they could come up with?

Nick (Bobby Campo) and his girlfriend Lori (Shantel VanSanten) are with friends Hunt (Nick Zano) and Janet (Haley Webb) at the McKinley Speedway watching an exciting car race.
But when Nick suddenly gets a premonition of an impending car crash, he drags his friends (and a few outsiders in the process) out of harm's way when his premonition comes true and a major car crash kills a shitload of people.

After awhile, Nick and his friends realize that Death is slowly stalking them and won't let them escape their fate which was supposed to have been met at that car race.
So now Nick and gang plus outsiders George (Mykelti Williamson), Andy (Andrew Fiscella) and Jonathan (Jackson Walker) have to try and cheat Death and hopefully survive the path that has been set for them.

Actually i didn't have to let you all know that.
i just needed to type out the characters's names and i'm sure almost all of you know how the 'Final Destination' series works right?
Well at least the first 3 movies were watchable if not enjoyable. But this 4th and final installment really sucks the shit bub.

The characters are idiots (and not even likeable) and have little or no connection to each other unlike the first few movies.
And to top if all off - the death sequences were horrible.
They've really run out of ideas and rely on crappy computer graphics to try and bail themselves out. Which fails. Miserably.

Not just a crappy tagline. Definitely a crappy movie.
I hope thy keep their word and hold this as the last installment in the series.

PS this movie is also availably sucky in 3D.
