Green Lantern

Watched With: Myself @ GV Vivo City (25/6)
Snacks: Mixed Nuts & Iced Lemon Tea
Genre: Superhero / Action / Adventure
Hidden Scene: Yes

"In brightest day, in blackest night. No evil *yawn*"

Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is a helluva fighter jet pilot.
But trying to live up to his father's legacy and memory makes him a very volatile man which is not good to employers Ferris Avionics including heir and old flame Carol Ferris (Blake Lively).

On the other end of the spectrum, Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) is a loner and a genius but also trying to love to his father's, Senator Hammond (Tim Robbins) high expectations.

But galaxies away, a different battle is brewing.
Old nemesis of The Green Lantern Corps - Parallax - has awoken and taken revenge against Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison), the mightiest of the Green Lanterns.
And now his ring must choose a worth successor.

When Hal is chosen, senior Green Lantern Sinestro (Mark Strong) does not believe he has what it takes to become a Lantern.
Even with help from Tomar-Re (Geoffrey Rush) and Kilowog (Michael Clarke Duncan), it will be a difficult mission for him.

Will Hal be able to face his demons and be fearless?
Will he be able to prove himself a worth Green Lantern?

Yes. He will do it. By boring the hell out of you.

I have to say that this was the most boring superhero movie ever.
Seriously.
Let's face it. Green Lantern was not even a very exciting superhero in the comic books and now his supremacy in boredom is transferred to a movie.

They should have made Keanu Reeves the Green Lantern.
And what a waste of talent by casting Mark Strong as Sinestro.

Well in his defense though.
People kept saying "Hey! But Ryan Reynolds is already Deadpool what!!"
Well Deadpool is Marvel and Green Lantern is DC FYI.

You should be making noise about Chris Evans aka 'The Human Torch from Fantastic Four' in the upcoming 'Captain America' because those 2 are Marvel.

Final Verdict: Worth $3 out of a $10 ticket

PS i'm going to back to the old ratings after this.
I miss my hotdogs.

X-Men: First Class Digital

Watched With: My Snooqums @ The Grand Cathay (12/06)
Snacks: Hotdog Combo
Genre: Superhero / Action

I'm confused. But it's okay.

Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) are two different individuals with very similar paths.
As powerful mutants, it is their destiny t shape the future of mankind.

Leading a team of young mutants learning to control their powers is no easy task.
It is up to Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Angel (Zoë Kravitz), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones), Darwin (Edi Gathegi) and Havok (Lucas Till) to find it within themselves to face their enemies. And themselves.

Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) with right-hand woman Emma Frost (January Jones) and henchmen Riptide (Álex González) and Azazel (Jason Flemyng) are bent on starting World War III and ensuring the rise of mutant-kind.
And it is up to the X-Men to stop them.

Well I tell you what.
I guess this movie was actually pretty good. On its own.

I had a lot of people say to me "Wow now I know the story behind the X-Men" and I guess that movie does show that but if were a comicbook fan then perhaps you may spots the obvious differences. (Moira MacTaggert is a CIA agent? Really??)
But I won't go into that. I think not many people know that I'm a huge X-Men fan from my comicbook collecting days.

And I also won't go into the digs at the previous movies (like cameos by Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Romijn)

What I will say is that Michael Fassbender made a very convincing show as Magneto.

And I know people like Mr-Jab and Mr-Dopamine-Dreamer will be able to appreciate the cameos put in by old timers like Rade Serbedzija, Ray Wise and Michael Ironside.

So this was pretty good movie overall.
A different direction from the first few movies but good nonetheless.

Final Verdict: Worth $8.00 out of a $10 ticket

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Watched With: 731 SIR @ GV Vivo City (22/05)
Snacks: Hotdog Combo
Genre: Action / Adventure / Comedy

Shiver me timbers.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is back.
This time he is on the quest for the Fountain of Youth which is also being sought after by the Spanish, old foe Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and fearsome pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).

Joining him on this quest is old flame Angelica Malon (Penélope Cruz) who is as much a pirate as she is a gentleman (does that even make sense?!).

So onwards they go to a journey of mermaids and danger at every turn.

Will Captain Jack get the better of his enemies this time?
Arr mateys tune in to find out.

Okay first let me say that you do not need to watch the first 2 installments of the 'Pirates' series to know what is going on in this movie (God knows I didn't) because this is more than a spin-off.
And as someone who does not enjoy this particular nonsense series, I'm going to go ahead and say this movie sucks.

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why people like this movie so much.
Yeah sure maybe swashbuckling adventure for the kids.
But everyone else? Seriously?
And it can't be Johnny Depp's looks because he looks like shit as a pirate.
And yes sure he is charming but surely there are a large number of you, like me, who is irritated by this 'Jack Sparrow' character.

If they wanted to name him after a bird - i recommend 'Jack Cock'.

Final Verdict: Worth $0.00 out of a $10 ticket
(I only watched it because it was my unit cohesion)
