Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

Watched With: Mr Baps Saigon @ Cathay Cineleisure (15/01)
Snacks: Mixed Nuts
Genre: Adventure / Comedy

"So do I turn into a bat?"
"No. No. That is bullshit"

Darren Shan (Chris Massoglia) is the model son.
Always following the rules and building his way to a perfect life mush to the delight of his parents but to the chagrin of his rebellious best friend Steve (Josh Hutcherson).

But Darren's life takes a turn when the Cirque Du Freak comes to town.
Instead of Steve getting his lifelong dream of becoming a vampire, Larten Crepsley (John C. Reilly) chooses Darren to become his vampire assistant.

So Darren learns to live with the other 'freaks' from the cirque including Evra The Snake-Boy (Patrick Fugit), Mr. Tall (Ken Watanabe), The Bearded Lady Madame Truska (Salma Hayek), Alexander Ribs (Orlando Jones), Rhamus Twobellies (Frankie Faison) and love interest Monkey Girl Rebecca (Jessica Carlson).

But when the mysterious Mr. Tiny (Michael Cerveris) and the blood-thirsty Vampeneze Murlough (Ray Stevenson) come along, it spells trouble for Darren, the cirque and also Steve.

So this movie is based on the first 3 books in the (apparently) popular Saga of Darren Shan series.
Think of it as... a different type of Harry Potter. But with vampires.

I guess it wasn't so bad. It was well worth it to see John C. Reilly in that red suit and there was a fair bit of comedy.
But overall you might get a bit bored especially knowing that there'll be sequels coming up.
Plus. Harry Potter - this series is not.

Final Verdict:
