Wee Bak Chuan (Patrick Teoh), the Pineapple King, has been found dead in his study with a golden pineapple ornament beside him.
A victim of foul play?

His grieving widow Siok Lin (Louisa Chong) has to make funeral arrangements while dealing with the bickering family who are up in arms over who is going to take over the Pineapple King's multi-million dollar pineapple tart company.

Leading the pack are the two sons - Teck Meng (Adrian Pang) and Teck Liang (Lim Kay Siu) who are at expectedly at odds with each other and are accompanied by their wives Veronica (Tan Kheng Hua) and Rosie (Deborah Png) respectively.
And struggling to get a grip on things is the only daughter Pei Shan (Neo Swee Lin).

To top if off, the police are in on things to solve the mystery of the Pineapple King's death. Could it have something to do with a dark secret involving Teck Liang's dead first wife Mei Yi (Emma Yong)?
Inspector Suresh (Huzir Sulaiman) and Detective Tan Kok Leong (Steve Yap) are here to solve the mystery at hand.

So as the ghost of Wee Bak Chuan looks on - his legacy unveils.

I enjoyed director Geln Goei's last movie 11 years ago - Forever Fever - so i had high expectations for this next offering.
The premise was a clever one. A murder mystery in a local setting.
But I was overall disappointed.

The cinematography was stunning. The setting was lovely. And the cast superb.
But I guess certain elements were lost in translation.
And certain elements could have been scrapped to minimize it's lengthy running time of just over 2 hours.

Some parts were clever. Other gripping. And some just plain irritating (like the police inspector). So overall a watchable movie.
Maybe better on DVD where you have the chance to better appreciate it.

Final Verdict:
